Piano lessons

Lessons are tailored to the individual based upon experience.  Beginners – early intermediate typically start with a 30 minute session.  Lessons are curriculum based, and include theory, and technique.  Rudiments that foster well rounded musicianship will be studied.

Voice lessons

Lessons begin with a warm up period followed by study and performance of varied vocal selections.  The curriculum will be based upon the goals of the individual student.  Reading music notation is a recommended tool for all singers, and will be encouraged.  Attention to posturing, breathing, and performance technique is routinely addressed.  Generally, a 45 minute lesson is recommended.

Intro to ukulele, recorder & percussion:

The ukulele, recorder & small percussion instruments are widely enjoyed, while contributing greatly to music ensembles.  Lessons in these disciplines will include learning the basics of how these instruments are played, and how they function within a musical work.  Exposure to the music notation will be explored.

Choral conducting services

Developing and directing a choir whether within the church setting or community is offered.  Our background includes experience within the youngest through the senior citizen community, and is approached as a seasonal opportunity culminating in a performance.

Church Music Services

As a certified cantor within the Los Angeles Archdiocese Mary has a background in liturgical music planning, leading congregational singing, as well as solo singing.  This ability translates to whatever type of service it is, whether weekly, funeral, or a wedding. We work with a variety of faith communities. With specific background in wedding coordination, she consults couples regarding overall ceremony considerations. She contracts for additional instruments when necessary or when requested.

“Mary Mesick has been amazing with my elementary-aged son! His experience with her as a piano instructor has been positive and full of growth, both musically and personally. No matter how he enters the lesson, he comes out of every lesson with a smile on his face. I highly recommend Mary to anyone looking for a rich music experience!"

"Our entire family has had the wonderful blessing of Mary Mesick’s piano instruction in our lives. She has taught all four of our kids who, if anybody with multiple kids understands, can often be challenging. For Mary, it always seemed effortless to instruct all ages. After 4 years of piano lessons, our kids still walk up to the piano at home and play pieces they’d learned previously, sometimes even attempting to compose their own music, just for fun. We also enjoy watching Mrs. Mesick direct her church choir as well as play piano during services. What a great example of someone who practices what she teaches! Her enthusiasm and positive demeanor are contagious while she treats each student as a special person who already has the ability within them to learn and play the piano. Her motto can very well be that of the old Nike ad “Just Do It”, because Mary rarely ever let our kids get away with not trying due to a lack of confidence or negative self-talk. Negativity does not thrive during piano lessons, and without her patience and compassion for each individual’s learning curve, our household would be a mundane place to live. Music fills the air in our home every day, whether or not the piano is played. Our kids have learned to listen to music with a different perspective, to distinguish beautiful classic pieces from pop music and beyond, and simply to appreciate what they can accomplish personally. The most important factor to note is that Mary encourages musicality as a lifelong journey, not just for the moment sitting in front of sheet music, but for LIFE. We cannot thank you enough, Mary, for all you’ve done to serve our family and community with your endless joy of song. My only regret is that we can’t keep you as our music teacher every day of the week!"

"Having come from a family of musicians, it was never a question whether or not I would be exposed to music lessons. My grandmother was a concert pianist, my uncle is a professional violinist and recording artist, and my mother Mary, a piano, and voice teacher, and church musician. Of course, I was exposed to sports in my youth as well. Beginning with piano lessons at a young age, I went on to play trumpet, drums, and guitar. I was able to participate in many music ensembles throughout my schooling. My musical foundation afforded me the opportunity to be accepted to a University on the merit of my musicianship even when I was not applying as a music major. As a young adult, I played in bands, and recorded my music. Now, as a professional in the medical field, I write and record for marketing videos. As I continue to play music daily, my audience has changed, as I introduce my own child to the opportunity of being musical."
